About Abacus Preschool

Abacus Preschool is an independent early years provider caring for children aged 2 to 4 across South Gloucestershire. Founded more than 20 years ago by director Jayne Baggott, Abacus aims to provide high-quality, affordable childcare built around learning through play.

Abacus runs term-time settings at Meadowbrook in Bradley Stoke, Stoke Gifford and Emersons Green, with Ofsted ratings of Good and Outstanding across its settings. Each setting has a designated SENCO and Designated Safeguarding Leads, and staff hold Paediatric First Aid qualifications.

With each setting having its own manager, team, address, phone number and session times, the website needed to present Abacus as one trusted organisation while still giving parents the details for the setting closest to them.

The Abacus Preschool website brings its South Gloucestershire settings together across desktop, tablet and mobile.

Responsive layouts let parents check sessions, fees and funding from their phone.

The Brief

Parents choosing a preschool want to know who will be looking after their child, how the setting is rated, what sessions are available, what it will cost and whether they can get help with the fees.

Abacus needed a website that answered those questions clearly for each of its settings, while reflecting the warm, nurturing character of the preschool and making it easy to enquire about a place.

The website also needed to support the wider business — recruiting new staff, promoting Forest School sessions and sharing useful information with families who already have a child at Abacus.

Designing Around Each Setting

We built the website around a clear "Choose your location" structure, so parents can go from the homepage straight to the setting they're interested in.

Each setting has its own page with the same layout, making the settings easy to compare. Every page includes:

• A welcome and description of the setting and its facilities
• The setting manager and deputy manager
• The Ofsted rating, with a link to the latest report
• AM, PM and all-day session times
• Hourly fees and payment information
• A direct phone number and address
• A virtual or video tour
• Testimonials from parents at that setting

This structure also helps search. Each location page can target searches for preschools and nurseries in Bradley Stoke, Stoke Gifford and Emersons Green, rather than one general page trying to cover the whole area.

Making Childcare Information Easy to Find

Childcare funding can be confusing for parents. The website has dedicated pages explaining fees, government-funded hours, Tax-Free Childcare and childcare vouchers, and who qualifies for the 2-year-old, 15-hour and 30-hour entitlements.

A curriculum page explains how Abacus follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and its seven areas of learning, alongside the preschool's safeguarding commitments.

Answering these common questions directly reassures parents before they get in touch, and gives search engines and AI assistants clear, factual content to draw on when parents ask about local childcare.

Enquiries, Careers & Forest School

The enquiry form asks parents to choose their preferred setting and give their child's details, so Abacus receives the information it needs to respond quickly and pass the enquiry to the right team.

The website also includes:

• Careers — current vacancies, plus testimonials from staff who have grown with Abacus, from apprentices to setting managers.
• Forest School — information on outdoor learning sessions at Meadowbrook.
• Gallery — photos showing life at each setting.
• Parent resources — posts on school readiness, healthy lunch boxes and getting started with Tapestry.

Built in WordPress

The website runs on a custom WordPress theme, so Abacus can update session times, fees, vacancies and news as things change.

The responsive design means every part of the site — the setting pages, funding information and enquiry form — works on desktop, tablet and mobile. That matters because many parents research childcare on their phones.
